Nostalgia Meets Now at Main Street Comics & Toys – Milltown, NJ

March 29, 2025

While passing through New Jersey, I made a stop to visit one of my oldest and dearest friends, Sean. During my visit, he took me to Main Street Comics & Toys, located at 74 N Main St, Milltown, NJ 08850.

From the outside, the shop’s style perfectly captured the blend of past and present. A freshly painted mural along the left side of the building had a minimalist, retro vibe, while the vinyl wrap on the front windows brought in a clean, modern contrast. That duality carried into the interior as well.

Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by how packed and purposeful the space was. The walls were covered floor-to-ceiling with books. Bins lined the right-hand wall, with drawers of black-back issues below, and from waist height to the ceiling: rows and rows of comics. The prices were solid, too. There were four or five other shoppers there while we browsed—a good sign of a healthy local following.

Beyond comics, the shop had a great assortment of collectibles—action figures, LEGO sets, posters, and art. A Yoda statue stood out among the mix, and painted Star Wars quotes added some extra flair to the walls. In the adjoining room, Funko Pop! collectors would feel right at home—it was a hunter’s paradise.

What really impressed me was the wall of full-run comic sets—an offering you don’t see often these days, especially not in this quantity. There was also a graphic novel section spanning six wide bookshelves and a children’s spinner rack full of younger-reader titles. Truly something for everyone.

I picked up a dozen or so books before heading out, but one title stood out the most: Amazing Spider-Man #36 from 2001, the striking all-black cover tribute to 9/11. That one always hits different.

Main Street Comics & Toys is a truly great store, and I wish them nothing but continued success.
